Introduction to certification
BIS certification is the product certification in India, which is supervised by the Bureau of standards of India (BIS). According to different product types, BIS certification can be divided into three types, including mandatory ISI certification, CRS certification and voluntary certification. BIS certification system has existed for more than 50 years, covering more than 1000 products. All products listed in the mandatory list must obtain bis certification (ISI mark registration certification) before they can be sold in India.
BIS is a third-party certification body. Products certified by bis will be marked with ISI label. This label has a broad influence in India and surrounding countries. It has a good reputation and is a reliable guarantee of product quality. Once the product is marked with "ISI mark", it means that it meets the relevant Indian Standards and consumers can buy it at ease.
In order to unify product regulatory standards and requirements and ensure product quality and safety, India began to implement product certification system in 1955. According to the BIS act, 1986, India adopts the principle of voluntary certification for product certification. However, considering the factors such as public health and safety and public consumption, the Indian government has implemented compulsory certification for specific products by issuing an immediate decree. It aims to provide quality assurance, safe and reliable products for final consumers. All products listed in compulsory certification must obtain product certification certificate according to Indian product standards before entering the market. Therefore, it is necessary for manufacturers who want to enter the Indian market to understand the Indian product certification system.
Introduction to bis
According to the BIS act, 1986, BIS is the Indian standardization and certification authority, specifically responsible for product certification. It is also the only product certification authority in India. It was formally established in 1987 to replace the Indian Standards Institute established in 1946.
BIS is a social corporation, but it performs government functions. Its main task is to formulate and implement national standards; Implementation of conformity assessment system; Participate in ISO, IEC and other international standardization activities on behalf of the country. The Indian Bureau of standards (BIS) is a financially self reliant organization with certification revenue as its main source of income. BIS has 5 Regional bureaus and 19 sub bureaus. Regional bureaus supervise the corresponding sub bureaus. Eight laboratories and some independent laboratories affiliated to bis are responsible for the inspection of samples taken during the product certification process. These laboratories are in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025:1999.
Certification considerations
1. The validity period of bis certification is 1 year, and the applicant must pay an annual fee. The extension can be applied before the expiration of the period. In this case, the application for extension shall be submitted and the application fee and annual fee shall be paid.

3. Certification will be faster if the applicant meets the following conditions.

b. The factory has the test equipment which conforms to the relevant Indian Standards
c. The products meet the requirements of relevant Indian Standards
Certification classification
At present, BIS certification can be divided into three categories:

2. BIS compulsory registration system (CRS) (product test + supervision after certification), mainly including tablet computer, microwave oven, wireless keyboard, printer power adapter, LED lamp, lithium battery, mobile power supply, mobile phone and smart card reader, UPS / inverter ≤ 10KVA, rear projection / LCD / LED TV set of 32 inch and below, etc;
3. The rest are bis voluntary certification, products other than compulsory mark certification and registration certification can be applied for.
